A 2.5-Hour Workshop on Yogipratyakṣa

How do yogis see what others cannot? What kind of perception emerges when the mind is stilled, when the senses become luminous, and the self dissolves into the non-objective clarity of awareness itself?

In this 2.5-hour workshop, we’ll explore the concept of yogic perception (yogipratyakṣa)—a central but often misunderstood concept within Indian philosophical traditions. More than just a metaphysical claim, yogipratyakṣa is a radical proposal: that sustained contemplative practice can unlock a direct mode of knowing reality, unmediated by ordinary cognition.

This is a space for the intellectually curious who are not just interested in what ancient philosophers thought, but who seek to embody that vision — who want to explore not just ideas about perception, but the transformation of perception itself.

Whether you are a yogi, meditator, teacher, or philosophical dabbler, you’ll leave with a new lens through which to understand both practice and reality.

Come prepared to listen, reflect, and perhaps begin to inquire from the still point within.

. . . an introduction to yogipratyakṣa across classical Indian traditions (with attention to key philosophical debates).

Grounded in both traditional sources and modern meditative experience, this session will offer:

. . . reflections on how different schools (e.g., Nyāya, Vedānta, Buddhism, and Jainism) understand the yogi’s perception.

. . . a defense of the yogic view from within the worldview of tradition—rooted in the epistemological view of what constitutes valid cognition.

. . . a discussion on how contemplative and meditative practices cultivate the perceptual refinement needed to move from inference to direct experiential insight.

. . . practical invitations for meditative inquiry, helping practitioners relate these philosophical teachings to the immediacy of contemplative experience.

. . . comparative exploration of Buddhist and Jaina theories of yogic perception, revealing how each tradition defines the nature and function of meditative insight.

. . . an investigation into Dharmakīrti’s and Akalanka’s distinct models of yogic perception, highlighting the tension between non-conceptual and conceptual modes of knowing.

. . . practical engagement with foundational techniques — Ānāpāna and Vipassanā from the Buddhist tradition, and Sāmāyika and Prekshādhyāna from the Jaina tradition—through which yogic perception is cultivated.
