Course Outline

MODULE 1: Rules of the Meditation & Mindfulness Road

+

Why practice meditation in the workplace? Meditation is supported by credible research, and incorporating meditation into work settings can have a positive impact on both employees and the organization as a whole. Key benefits of the practice include: stress reduction, decreased anxiety and depressions, improved memory and more. This module provides an overview of how to practice in a busy setting - and the benefits of a meditative pause. Learn trauma-informed tips for accessibility, and reasonable expectations to free the beginner from perfectionism or false starts.

MODULE 2: Community & Workplace Mindfulness Strategies

+

This module lays out pragmatic and effective guidelines for workplace mindfulness programs of any length - and what types of practices are best supported by neuroscience and tradition. Guided by the principle of neuroplasticity, participants are encouraged to repeat a specific behavior or meditation practice for a continuous period of 30 to 40 days. Programs can be supported with small group feedback — building community and strengthening individual practices with support. Furthermore, we consider company-wide communication strategies that use breath and mindfulness as a means to communicate more thoughtfully and effectively. The module ends with a group meditation for use in meetings that incorporates visualization.

MODULE 3: Take a Breath: Breath Awareness

+

The origin of breath awareness can be traced back to the yogic practice of prāṇāyāma. The yogis viewed breath as the bridge between the body and mind. The Buddhist paradigm refers to the practice of breath observation as “samatha.” Central to this practice is the concept of single-pointed focus, where the breath becomes a kind of mantra, with practitioners directing their attention to body awareness. A foundational technique in this practice is Belly Breathing, which increases activity in the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), promoting relaxation.

MODULE 4 : The Body Scan

+

In this module, we practice a body scan meditation derived from Yoga Nidra. We learn the neuroscience behind the tradition, and how to guide it effectively and for accessibility.

MODULE 5: Intention Setting Meditation

+

In this module, learn an effective approach for creating a personal intention — a saṅkalpa — including the three key characteristics that best comprise an intention. Follow through with useful strategies to make it stick for meaningful transformation.

MODULE 6: The Power of Sound

+

Rediscover the profound influence of sound in shaping our world - both through ancient legends and practical applications. Explore the intriguing concept of entrainment — a fundamental principle in physics governing the organization of matter waves — and touch on the emerging research surrounding the therapeutic potential of sound. This module also provides a glimpse into the realm of sound meditation instruments and introduces the sacred mantra of "Om."

MODULE 7: Loving Kindness Meditation

+

In this module, we practice Buddhist metta meditation - also known as Loving Kindness. Loving Kindness Meditation is an effective way to reframe perspectives — offering a moment of personal reflection that can simultaneously improve our community relationships. This practice can be used as a stand-alone class to foster a personal meditation practice.

MODULE 8: Chair Yoga and Stretching

+

Chair Yoga is an effective intervention for stress and tightness incurred from focusing or sitting for long periods of time. It’s a soma-psychic practice — changing the body to change the mind. This module includes an accessible practice that incorporates all the major movements of the spine with mindful breathing to release tension patterns at work.

Tantra enables us to experience fullness by demolishing the wall that separates our mundane sensory experiences from the spiritual ones. Tantric empowers us and accomplishes this by integrating various techniques of yoga. Tantra is simultaneously a meditative spiritual path and ritual-heavy practice leading to spiritual insight.
