@avantaylor | www.yamatalent.com

Janet Stone’s yoga journey began at 17 under Maharaji, her meditation teacher, whose reverence for simplicity and joy live on in her practice and teachings to this day. She shares from the depth of her own sadhana (sustained practice), her studentship in the eight-limbed path, her creative approach to asana, and her reverence for bhakti (devotional, heart-centered yoga, including chanting mantra). With over thirty years in studentship to the practice and twenty years of teaching, Janet offers classes that challenge students to investigate what they think they know, to hold compassion for what they discover within themselves, and to remember presence, the long view and the radical depth of our interconnectedness.

When DJ Cavem coined the term eco-hip hop in 2007, he didn’t know it would sprout into a global movement. His mission to rap about climate change, food justice and plant-based foods spread far beyond his Denver hometown. Having performed at the Obama White House and been featured in Oprah Magazine and on the Rachael Ray Show, Dr. Ietef “DJ Cavem” Vita became known as more than just a rapper — but an activist, educator and vegan chef. Now, several years after the release of The Produce Section, his award-winning album that fused hip hop with lessons on eco-friendliness, Cavem has shifted his focus to new material. His latest project BIOMIMICZ is being released as an album/seed pack to get people involved and spur listeners into action.

The Yoga Sutra has been the "go-to" text for the study and practice of Yoga since the emergence of Yoga in its modern form more than a century ago. This talk will highlight key features of how to use this text in the context of a Yoga class. Particular attention will be given to its ethical content, its meditation instructions, its psychological insights, and its underlying freedom-affirming philosophy.

Being in the “Power of Now” is skillfully accomplished with breath techniques offered in the Yogic, Tibetan Buddhist and Zen traditions. There are specific pranayama techniques that reduce thinking about the past and future to establish attention in the here and now. In this talk, we will uncover the basic physiologic and postural principles for optimal breathing and we will see the correlates between contemporary neuroscience and the traditional teachings.

Reimagine the Classroom

Breath and Presence
with Mary Reilly Nichols

Teaching the Yoga Sutras

with Chris Chapple

"We have arrived at a great moment to co-create a new space for learning — a space that embodies the qualities and values that are fundamental to healing. I suggest that the teacher-student relationship is a reciprocal one, in so far as a dialogical approach is at the foundation of learning, and propose that it is dialogue which plays a major role in the liberatory function of education."
