Dr. Abha Rajbhandari
Abha is a neuroscientist at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Abha obtained her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied the role of the brain region called the amygdala in stress-related sensorimotor gating relevant to schizophrenia. Abha did her postdoctoral work at the University of California-Los Angeles, where she studied fear and stress regulation via a specific neuropeptide system relevant to post-traumatic stress disorder.
At the Icahn School of Medicine, Abha studies the brain, vagus nerve, and body mechanisms of fear, stress, and energy metabolism to understand how the brain and body interact with each other in regulating these functions. Her research focuses on developing novel therapeutic avenues for post-traumatic stress disorder. Abha was born in Nepal and moved to the United States to pursue her higher studies after high school.
