About The Awakened Body Certificate Program

This certificate program brings some of the world’s leading experts in the field of somatic psychology and embodiment to Embodied Philosophy’s online learning community. Masters of embodied healing practices and somatic psychotherapy will lead participants through a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary program that will not only help promote your somatic skill development but promote your own personal transformation.

This program offers students exposure to a range of somatic approaches in working with emotions, feelings and actions by harnessing practices of gesture, posture, facial expression, voice and breath.

Why a body-based philosophy?

Only gaining recognition within the last few decades, somatics is helping to resolve the fragmentation among different forms of knowledge – between theory and practice, education and environment, aesthetics and healing, art creation and performance, experience and reflection, and so on. This allows for a dynamic interconnectedness between the personal and collective strata of our shared embodiment.

The philosophy and practices of somatics are some of today’s most popular healing methodologies in trauma treatment, chronic illness, pain management, and addiction recovery.

TUITION OPTIONS

These practices have spanned generations of practitioners and lineages, whose multidisciplinary influences include not only contemplative psychologies and philosophies, but psychoanalysis, dance, bodywork, gymnastics, massage and many more.

Our “Awakened Body” program is an innovative program that for the first time gives access to the teachings and philosophical foundations of somatic systems of theory and practice that have been often hidden behind trademarks and obfuscation. This highly curated program brings some of the leading experts directly to you at home.

The philosophical notion of “soma” integrates two dimensions of mind and body as the animate or “ensouled” body. One of the principal axioms of somatics is that human subjectivity and experience—psyche—is embodied. Indeed, human experience is mediated through the body, and the human self is constituted by bodily experience, or—in other words—the sense of self is emergent out of a—however indirectly, dimly, or clearly perceived—body-based consciousness. It is this irreducible notion of our embodiment that is central to the healing systems of somatic therapies that have spanned multiple generations of practitioners.

  • Identify the transformative capacities of depth psychologies and embodied healing traditions from ancient philosophies to contemporary somatic healing models.
  • Engage with contemplative mindbody techniques, holistic personal inquiry methods, embodied relational mindfulness skills, and somatic movement practices.
  • Learn internal and external processes for improved relational attunement and connection with self and others through relational, social, ecological, and spiritual psychologies.
  • Develop an intersectional lens for working within a liberation model of mental health promotion.
  • Deconstruct the psychophysiological, and contemporary psychoanalytic theories in multidisciplinary mindbody healing practices.
  • Become a part of an international community of integrative somatic practitioners.
  • Identify methods of personal transformation and liberation to help yourself and others connect to their somatosensory experience.
  • Guide yourself and others in mitigating internalized systems of oppression.
  • Learn to speak the language of the body, the unconscious, through explorations of the mythosymbolic, the preverbal, and the archetypal.
  • Learn to awaken the unconscious potential of your body through intensive study, contemplative writing, and community.

NeuroAffective Touch®is a polyvagal-informed psychobiological approach designed for body-mind integration. The modules draw upon the key elements of developmental theory, relational psychotherapy, somatic psychology, neuroscience, and bodywork to address emotional, relational, cognitive, and developmental deficits that cannot be reached by verbal means alone.

Trauma therapy from a somatic perspective invites us to reconnect with the oft-forgotten “felt sense” of the body. Instead of working strictly from a talk-therapy approach, somatic psychotherapy uses the wisdom of the body to help guide a client out and through. In this course, Dr. Albert Wong will share the underlying principles of trauma therapy from a somatic perspective, including tools we can use with our clients, ourselves, and those we love.
